Remote Access
W&L provides remote access to network resources through WebDav and the VPN. The WebDav and VPN Services provides faculty, staff, and students with a simple way to connect securely to the W&L campus network, from any location anywhere around the world using a simple web browser.
- You can use services that may have been restricted at W&L's border. This includes access to Microsoft file servers (H:, L:, and G: drives) and networked printers.
- Your computer will be given a secure path onto the W&L campus network. If you handle sensitive data as part of your work or research, a secure connection is critical.
- Your computer will appear to have an IP address local to the W&L campus network. This allows you to connect to resources such as library databases that may require your computer to use a W&L campus address in order to gain access.
Quick Start for WebDav
WebDav is currently only available for access to the L Drive. You can use WebDav to access your course folders and clinic file storage. To use WebDav:
- Go to https://law.wlu.edu/LDrive
- Log in with your network username and password. Make sure you precede your username with "AD" (thus AD\smithj)
- This will now show a list of folder available through your web browser.
If you wish to fully integrate WebDav with your Windows or Mac file system:
Windows XP
- On the desktop, double-click My Network Places, In the "Network Tasks" pane, click Add a network place.

- The VPN will scan your computer to make sure you have all the updates you need

Detailed Instructions for Network Connect
If you require more robust access to our network, you may request access to Network Connect. To access the VPN and Network Connect, go to https://vpn.wlu.edu. You will be asked for your username and password. Once authenticated, click the Start Button in "Network Connect".

The first time you visit the VPN web page, it will install a java "applet". This "applet" is the software required to create the network connection, and may take several minutes to install. Once connected, you will see a connection icon in your task tray.
While you are connected, simply select the resources you want. For example, if you have a short cut to your H: drive, simply click on it.
To monitor the VPN connection, click on the lock icon. There is a "sign out" button on the details of the VPN connection.
Important Notes:
- The VPN client will disconnect after 4 hours or after 30 minutes of inactivity. You can go back to the VPN page to start another session if you have been disconnected.
- Access to network drives will be slower than access from on campus.
- The following systems are supported:
- Windows XP sp 2 with Internet Explorer 6/7 or Firefox 2.0
- Windows Vista (32 bit) with Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 2.0
- Mac OSX 10.4 with Safari 2.0
- Mac OSX 10.3.x with Safari 1.1
- When you start or stop your VPN session, your IP address will change to or from a W&L address. This change in IP address will interrupt services such as AIM or Yahoo Chat.
- The VPN Service is a shared resource; please be sure to disconnect if you are not actively using the VPN tunnel.
