Prof. Wilson's lecture, which will begin at 12 p.m. in Hofstra's moot courtroom, is titled "Trusting Mothers: A Critique of the American Law Institute's Treatment of De Facto Parents."
The Siben Distinguished Professorship Lecture series was established in 1984 and is supported by a gift from the firm of Siben & Siben in Bay Shore, New York. Its purpose is to promote scholarly research, conferences and publications in the fields of torts and family law.
A specialist in family law and health law, Prof. Wilson's research and teaching interests also include insurance and biomedical ethics. She has presented her research throughout the U.S. and abroad in China, Norway, Serbia, and Australia among many other countries. She is a frequent commentator in the national media, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.
The Class of 1958 Law Alumni Professor of Law, Prof. Wilson is the author of numerous law review articles and editor of four volumes: Health Law and Bioethics: Cases in Context; Same-Sex Marriage and Religious Liberty: Emerging Conflicts; Reconceiving the Family: Critical Reflections on the American Law Institute's Principles of the Law of Family Dissolution; and the Handbook of Children, Culture & Violence.
