Dean Smolla Elected to Board of Governors of Virginia Bar

Rodney A. Smolla, dean and Roy L. Steinheimer, Jr. Professor of Law at Washington and Lee University School of Law has been elected to the Board of Governors of the Virginia Bar Association.

The Virginia Bar Association (VBA) is a voluntary organization of Virginia lawyers that serves the public and the legal profession by promoting professionalism in the legal profession, working to improve the law and the administration of justice, and advancing collegial relations among lawyers. Dean Smolla will serve on the governing board of the VBA, bringing his expertise as a practicing lawyer and his experience as a legal educator to the board.

Dean Smolla is nationally recognized as a scholar, teacher, advocate, and writer. His wide-ranging scholarship includes four legal treatises, a casebook on the First Amendment, a coauthored casebook on constitutional law, and scores of articles in the nation's top law reviews. He also writes widely for general audiences, including popular books such as Deliberate Intent and Jerry Falwell v. Larry Flynt. His commentary appears frequently in national print and electronic media.

In 2008, Dean Smolla was recognized with a Leader in the Law award from Virginia Lawyers Weekly for his work on Washington and Lee Law School's innovative third-year curriculum reform.              Email This Page
