Lexington, VA • September 12, 2005 – The School of Law is pleased to announce that effective September 12, Paul Gardner has joined the School of Law as Director of Law School Relations. Gardner comes to the law school from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry where he served as Director of Development and Executive Director of the Dental Foundation of North Carolina.
Prior to his tenure at the School of Dentistry, Gardner served from 1989 until 1998 as Assistant Dean for Development and Alumni Affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication. His development experience includes additional stints at the University of Chicago and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
“I have been in higher education my entire career, and I’ve always had a great deal of admiration for Washington & Lee University and its School of Law,” Gardner said. “I look forward to working with W&L law alumni, friends, students, faculty, and staff to further enhance the School’s standing as one of the nation’s best.”
A 1986 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Gardner has a proven track record of surpassing fundraising goals. While at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication he helped exceed the Bicentennial Campaign goal of $3.8 Million, raising an additional $1.9 million. Similarly, through June 2005, he had raised 110% of the $30 million goal for the School of Dentistry’s portion of the University of North Carolina’s $1.8 billion capital campaign.
