Chris Manning, a 1997 graduate of the Washington and Lee University School of Law, is at the center of a lawsuit involving 65 million dollars and one pair of pants. In a case that has drawn nationwide attention from legal oversight organizations and the media, Manning represents the owners of a dry cleaning store who are being sued by a former customer over a misplaced pair of pants.
"This is quite possibly the most amazing example of frivolous and ridiculous litigation ever," says Manning.
Most watchers of the case would agree, and it just might cost the plaintiff, D.C. administrative law judge Roy Pearson, his job. Representatives of the American Tort Reform Association and other members of the legal community have called for Pearson's termination, saying the law suit calls into question his judicial temperament.
Coverage of the case in the media has been extensive. A list of reports on the law suit can be found at the website for Manning's firm, www.manning-sossamon.com. In addition, an article and video is available at CNN.com.
The case goes to trial on June 11.
