RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats, specified in XML and used for Web syndication of various kinds of content including news, blogs, and videos. Web feeds provide web content or summaries of web content together with links to the full versions of the content. RSS, in particular, delivers this information as an XML file called an RSS feed, webfeed, RSS stream, or RSS channel. Applications called news readers or aggregators enable users to subribe to these feeds, bringing information from disparate locations together in one place for easier consumption.
News readers are available in many of the popular web portals including those offered by Google and Yahoo. In addition, news readers are built into the Firefox and Safari (2.0 and up) web browsers and will also be available with Internet Explorer 7.0. RSS feeds containing video or audio information, also know as podcasts, can be accessed through iTunes.
