Law Council 2012-2013
As the governing board of the Law Alumni Association, the Law Council advises the Law School Dean on matters related to student career services, admissions, reputation of the Law School, curriculum, alumni relations, and fundraising.
The Law Council consists of 26 elected members who serve staggered four-year terms, plus three officers (president, vice president, immediate past president) who serve ex-officio and are elected for a term of one year. After serving the four-year term, Law Council members are asked to serve for an additional four years as an Emeritus member of the Council.
The Law Alumni Association was created in 1953 to promote the Law School as an institution of service to its students, the legal profession, the judiciary, and the general public. The Law Council and Law Alumni Association support the School of Law with funds for student scholarships, two Law Alumni faculty fellowships, and two Law Alumni Association faculty fellowships in teaching excellence. The Law Alumni Association no longer solicits dues from law alumni. Instead the Law Council encourages W&L Law Alumni to support the Law Annual Fund.
