Faculty Support

Professorship $1,500,000

Provides endowed support for outstanding faculty members, thus enhancing the Law School's ability to attract, retain, and reward the very best teachers.

Term Professorship $250,000

A competitive award given to faculty members for a three- or five-year term.

Faculty Scholarship Fund $250,000

A competitive award given primarily to faculty members in order to facilitate their research during summers and sabbaticals. The fund can be used to pay for related equipment, technology, materials or travel necessary for the research.

Lecture Series $625,000

Visiting lecturers bring fresh perspectives and valuable experiences to campus. They engage students and professors in important legal issues. The lecturers often are opinion leaders, and their subsequent conversations with colleagues at other law schools about their experiences on our campus can help shape others' opinions of W&L.

Visiting Scholars Fund $400,000

Provides salary support for scholars from other institutions to teach at W&L. The funds allow the Law School to attract top scholars to teach for an academic term or semester; the visitors may fill in for W&L faculty who are on sabbatical or they might allow the Law School to offer a course that is not normally taught. Their exposure to W&L enlivens the campus, and it pays dividends when they communicate their experiences to colleagues at other institutions. (Full-year visiting professor requires $1,500,000 endowment).
